These are not only yummy but the addition of veggies and basil give them an unexpected flavor for all your holiday celebrations! be forewarned, They're addictive!
This recipe will yield 8 Dinner rolls (You can double the recipe if you like more!)
1 C All purpose flour
1C Bread flour
4oz Butter (cubed)
3/4 T salt
1C milk (warmed)
1 1/4 oz dried yeast or (5 1/4 oz packets )
1 1/2 oz sugar
2 scallions (chopped)
5 fresh Basil leaves (finely chopped)
1 1/2 oz finely chopped sundried tomatoes (or about 6 medium sized pieces)
Preheat oven to 325F.
In a mixer bowl (kitchen aid) Combine flours,salt and cubed butter
Mix on slow speed with paddle attachment
In another medium sized bowl combine warmed milk with yeast and sugar
Stir a little to dissolve and let sit for about 8 minutes until mixture bubbles
Increase mixer speed to medium and mix until butter pieces and flour is "mealy" or approx 3 minutes (Do not over mix)
Stop mixer and Add the yeast mixture . Mix on low speed for about a minute until incorporated
Add veggies and basil
Mix another minute
Cover dough with plastic and let sit for about two hours or until dough doubles in size
Knock out air and knead until smooth in texture
Cut pieces (use a scale if you have one to measure out 4 oz pieces)
If you dont, just use your eyes as a guide and cut off 8 pieces
Roll each piece of dough into a ball and place on a cookie sheet
Brush rolls with egg wash
Bake at 325 for about 20 - 25 minutes
